Ronald Craig Moon, of Bakersfield, California, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from ongoing lung complications. Ron was only 72 years old. The family is deeply saddened by his death.

Ron was born on October 3, 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and started his life traveling from place to place as a Navy brat. From Corpus Christi, Ron's family moved their home to Guam, Oregon, then to California where they lived in San Diego, Chula Vista, Spring Valley, Oakland, and finally landing in Livermore where he graduated from High School. He met Brenda Louella Hale while he was at Granada High School, and they married the year after he graduated. Also, while in high school, he began working part-time at Kinney Shoe Corporation, and once he graduated, moved his way up to managing the store. By the time he switched careers and joined PG&E in 1973, he and Brenda had two sons, Ronnie and Michael. Ron spent more than 30 years with PG&E moving from Journeyman Lineman all the way up to Transmission Line Foreman. During this journey, he served on numerous committees, worked as Shop Steward, Treasurer of the Executive Board for the IBEW 1245 Union, and even represented the union on the Contract Negotiating Team. He finally retired in 2012.

After Ron and Brenda parted ways, Ron moved to Bakersfield and met the love of his life, Diana Jean (Gallagher) McAtee. They married in 1996, and although his sons were already grown, he jumped into fatherhood once again helping Diana to raise her sons, Hunter and Carson. Ron was at every football game and wrestling match cheering them on. He was definitely a hands-on dad.

Ron was passionate about many things – motorcycles, waterskiing, traveling, woodworking, but especially loved the Raiders football team. Whether they were in Oakland, Los Angeles, Oakland again, or Las Vegas, Ron missed as few games as possible. Ron and Diana had season tickets, and you could see them on Sundays cheering their team on. When the team moved to Las Vegas, that did not deter Ron. He was one of the first to purchase his season tickets at the new stadium. No question...Ron will be cheering them on from Heaven. Go Raiders!

No matter how big a Raiders fan Ron was, family was always the most important thing to him – especially his grandchildren. He was never happier than when he heard his grandkids call for their “Papa”. Those kids know that their Papa adored them.

Ron leaves many people behind who loved him very much... his wife, Diana; his sons Ronnie Moon, Michael Moon, Hunter McAtee and Carson McAtee (Elyssa); his brother-in-law Patrick Gallagher (Julie); sister-in-law, Donnell Vranesh; and mother-in-law, Juanita Gallagher; grandchildren Madison, Bradley, Tyler, Lincoln, Brooke, Macie, Peyton and Claire; special niece Julie Canciamille and nephew David Moon; numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives in Georgia, and his friend and former wife, Brenda. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Edna Moon, and brothers Eugene and Chester.

To honor Ron's memory, a celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Coconut Joe's Banquet Hall (4000 Easton Drive, Suite #2 – park behind AMC Theaters). Anyone who knew him is welcome to attend and remember his wonderful life. In lieu of flowers, Ron had made a special request...please have a special outing with someone you care about. We know if Ron were still here, he would have loved nothing more than to spend another day with his family...and especially his grandkids.
