BPD: 2 DUI drivers arrested at checkpoint

Bakersfield Police officers arrested two people on suspicion of driving under the influence during a checkpoint held in the 1900 block of Ming Avenue.

During the enforcement from 6 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday, 1,721 vehicles were screened. Three drivers were detained to further evaluate their sobriety level.

Thirty-one drivers were cited for driving while unlicensed. Nine were cited for driving with a suspended license.

Forty vehicles were seized at the checkpoint. Thirty-one of those vehicles were impounded and nine were released to licensed drivers.

Police ask that anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver call 911.

A man is in critical condition after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and was ejected Friday night, according to Bakersfield Police.

It happened shortly before 11 p.m. in the 4600 block of Morning Drive. Excessive speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the collision, BPD reported in a news release.

A woman was shot and killed Friday night in the 2100 block of 1st Street, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Officers who went to the area at 6:58 p.m. found the woman, whose identity has not been released, on the roadway, police said in a news release. She died at the scene.
