The Bakersfield Californian

BETTY MAE (CALDWELL) ALBITRE

May 22, 1937 - December 30, 2021

Born in Bakersfield, California to Agnes and Orval Caldwell. She was the fifth of eight children. She was a proud Tule River Tribal Elder. She spent her younger years in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range from their family homestead at Galley Mountain to their homestead on Greenhorn Mountain. She attended Porterville High School. While attending the 5th annual Glennville Rodeo in 1955 Betty met the love of her life Fred Albitre (she still has the ticket stub from that rodeo date). On March 2, 1957, the couple married and spent 55 amazing years together on this earth, they raised three children. Betty put herself through trade school, and after graduating earned a job with ARB Inc., her first and only job, working there for 40+ years of service. In 1959 Betty and Fred bought their first piece of property and a few cows. Betty was the ultimate nurturer, whether it be family, friend, or any critter large or small. Her door was always open; she knew no stranger.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Anastacio (Fred) Albitre; parents Agnes and Orval Caldwell; her brothers Virgile Caldwell, Raymond Caldwell; her sisters Verna Wallace, Patricia Sisk.

Left to enjoy her memory, her eldest son Harlan and his wife Tabitha Albitre of Bakersfield; daughter Danette and Husband David Carter of Woody; Randy and wife Vicki Albitre of Bakersfield; her brother Verdo and wife Mary Caldwell of California Hot Springs; Sister Beverly Hundsdorfer of Springville; brother Aaron and wife Nancy Caldwell of Woody. Her seven grandchildren were her pride and joy. Brad and Thomas Albitre; Chance and wife Emily Albitre; Kylie Carter; Vail and husband Laramie Collins; Devon and Dustee Albitre. Three greatgrandchildren Brix and Blanche Brown, and the familys newest addition Lyndee Mae Albitre.

Come join us in a celebration of life at the Woody Community Center, Woody, CA. on Saturday, February 12th at 2 o'clock pm. The family takes comfort in hearing stories about Betty, and time will be provided during the celebration for anyone to share.
