Police seek robbery suspect

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for community assistance identifying an alleged robbery suspect from an April 15 incident at a CVS Pharmacy located at 2690 Mount Vernon Ave.

According to a BPD news release, the suspect entered the CVS and removed several items from display shelves and exited without paying. When confronted, she pepper sprayed employees, according to the BPD.

The news release described the suspect as a Hispanic woman in her 40s, weighing between 240 and 250 pounds with brown hair and a chest tattoo.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Community-wide Advisory Council is urging the public to share their thoughts about the law enforcement agency in a series of upcoming meetings scheduled to take place throughout the remainder of the year.

The council is composed of a diverse group of Kern County residents who are working with the California Department of Justice to ensure the Sheriff’s Office addresses community issues identified in a recent settlement.

“As parents, neighbors, and community leaders, we are devastated by the loss of life throughout our Nation with a focus on Kern County,” the council said in a news release.

The CAC’s mission is to promote accountability and transparency in policing to ensure the dignity and respect of all residents, according to the release.

The meetings have been scheduled for the following dates: May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, Dec. 20.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will host a cadet recruitment event on Saturday, May 15.

According to a news release from the KCSO, the event is designed to provide insight into the world of law enforcement, whether participants choose law enforcement as a career or not.

It will begin at 8 a.m. at Standard Middle School, 1222 N. Chester Ave.

The Sheriff’s Office asks participants to arrive in interview attire and bring a change of clothes for the physical agility portion of the recruitment. The entire process should take threeto-four hours.

According to the KCSO, unit membership requirements are individuals 14 to 20 years old with no warrants or felony record, enrolled in school with a minimum grade point average of 2.0, and be able to contribute at least 12 hours a month to meetings and events.
