Firefighters contain Loop Fire to less than 10 acres

BY NICK SMIRNOFF

Firefighters from Kern County Fire Station 11 in Keene were busy Thursday morning completing mop-up operations from a July 21 fire along Woodford Tehachapi Road. The fire broke out that evening in the vicinity of the Tehachapi Loop Train Viewing Platform.

A large “get it while it’s small” initial response kept the slow-moving flames to less than 10 acres. Mop-up crews worked throughout the night and into Thursday morning to extinguish smoldering stumps and cow manure.

Following social media reports that several homeowners heard fireworks before the fire was reported, arson units were notified and are conducting an investigation. No injuries or loss of structures were reported.
